How does this work? Where does this start? For me when I was younger, I felt rather disciplined but when it came to tootsie rolls I could eat them all day long, until I got tooth aches and cavities. Discipline for me started when I had my first experience in tooth aches and cavities. Later it turned into everything in moderation. Variety is good of course but I had to get into that habit of brush my teeth after eating desserts and candies. When for me taekwondo helped instill habits to keep be focused and kept me from getting into trouble.
These two words discipline and focus may have different connotations in your lives as well. That said, for me having both helped me reached my goals and motivated to continue to keep goals and achieve them.
Discipline is not just keeping to a diet or sticking to a routine but creating new habits to help better your self in long run.
Focus, really narrowing your thoughts and wants and just keeping them at the forefront of your mind when achieving your goal.
How does this work? One step at a time. Do some thing small like making your bed every day. Waking up a little earlier every day to work up to going to the gym first thing the morning. Setting out your work out clothes the night before. Eventually, for me I got to a point where if I didn’t make my bed my morning would be thrown off. I would feel like I was missing or needed to do something. When it came to changing the way I ate, I learned that diabetes run in my family, this was my reason to start eating healthier. Sure every now and again I would have ice cream or pastries but only every now and again, but not every day, all day. I visualize looking and feeling good on the daily basis and it helps me stay focused.
Where do you start? For me I wrote down a routine with time segments. What do you want to do in the first 30 minutes of your morning? Meditate? Write down your dream you had last night? Write down your goals for the day? Exercise? Make your morning that most important part of your day! When I came to eating health, I prep my meals once a week for the week. For variety I pack different healthy snack foods. I got rid of temptations, such as chocolate, chips, and candies. I made a conscious effort to have once a week have carbs but not so much I would get sick. Such as last weekend I had pancakes for breakfast. In order to reach your goals you must have these to things. Whatever you do, just get started. What do you have to lose?
