Mental Health Awareness Month

Have you ever felt emotionally drained? Normally after an ordeal dealing with family, friends, work, health, finance or all of the above? Take a moment. Breathe.

Mental health, I feel, is just as important if not more important than your physical health. With a good mindset, its difficult to achieve goals, care for and love people and keep your commitments and promises to others. If I don’t feel emotionally well or my head isn’t in the right frame of mind or if I feel my world is falling apart the best place to start to feeling better is changing my outlook and perspective. Mental health I feel is just as important if not more important than your physical health.

Write it out. Everything. Feeling. Bad or good. Get it out on paper. Something about the act of writing it out for me helps a lot. Whatever bad feelings I feel I get it out and then I have a clear head to take on the next thing I need to face.

Listen to fun and upbeat music. Music with great lyrics that make you feel energize and feeling good. Nothing like listening to some fun music and dancing about to get the endorphins going and heart racing.

Ask your self questions. When I am facing an issue or problem I ask myself, can I do anything about it? I would come up with solutions. If not, all I can do from there is change how I perceive, feel and think about the issue. All I could do is change my outlook on it. Why fuss over something I can’t fix?

Good out and doing something new and fun. Adventures are great for that. For me, I get so focused on the new destination or new experience I forget what I was worried about and focus on having and a good time. Sometimes that is all I need to get my mind off a problem or issue

Meditation and or guided meditations. For me, it helps me focus on my breathing. With every breath, I think about what I am grateful for in life. This is also my time to visualize my goals already accomplished. Some of the guided meditations I listen to have great affirmations to say out loud and to yourself before retiring for the evening. Usually, after meditating I feel revitalized and have a clearer head to take on the day.

What are some ways you keep your spirits up?
