So You Want to be Rich, Huh?

So You Want to be Rich, Huh?

Just the other day I had Bruno Mars song “I want to be a billionaire so F***ing bad.” stuck in my head. All the things he dreamed about in wanting this amount of money, was certainly kinda funny but not farfetched. I thought about it and the more I thought about having that amount of money more fun and crazy ideas I had with what I would do with that sort of funds. I then realized it’s possible for me in the future. How in the world would I achieve this? Certainly not overnight. Nothing happens overnight. What would be the costs? Time? More money? Less fun? I found in my studies about success and personal development three main areas a person needs to work on to get to where they want to go.

Developing the mind: This is an ongoing project consists of daily affirmations, goal setting, stretching my mental limits and study on the thing I want to make my own. I know if I am not learning something I feel pretty unmotivated. Learning new things for me is essential to move forward with anything I am working on. Obtaining knowledge and growing my self-worth and confidence but overcoming self-doubt and focusing on strengths. Getting that extra push from someone who believes in you too goes a long way. My friends and family are super awesome and I appreciate them so much for that.

Developing communication skills: This can be done in a variety of ways. Practicing doing presentations or speeches, writing, reading and learning from a mentor. For me, I make YouTube videos, write a blog and read a lot of books. While in toastmaster, speeches had become second nature to me and I feel I can speak with saying any umm or ands. Well not as often. Joining has been the best decision I have made in while and totally worth it in building my skills in communication and confidence.

Master of Personal Finance: taking care of my personal financing has been a great deal of time and number crunching. For me, it’s worth it because I know what I need to cashflow wise for expenses and I know I can be debt-free in less than 2 years. Once those things are set in place I can focus on investing and having my money work for me and starting up businesses. Again long term goals for my financial dreams but not impossible. It takes a lot of discipline and management of my ego to not spend money on that new purse or a new phone or go into more debt to get the car of my dreams. My focus is to get out of debt, be able to give and live like no else.

Certainly, it’s a struggle every day in all three areas at times, but that’s when you start where you are and build upon what you got. This journey has not been easy and I don’t expect it to be. I feel I wouldn’t learn anything if it was.

What are the three main things you think a person needs to work on to get where they want to go?
