“Zoot! Zoot! Riot”

“Zoot! Zoot! Riot”

I had the amazing pleasure and experience to go swing dancing the other evening at the local dance hall, the Eagles Ballroom. This great venue has room to dance and mingle. Around 7 pm on Tuesday evenings they have an hour of basic swing dance lessons where you rotate through different partners dancing and learning. After, they have a dance until 10pm to dance and learn from veteran swing dancers. Now, I only have gone there one other time, I didn’t know how this work. After going now a time or two I figured out, this is the best way to meet new people, learn new styles of swing dancing and add a little flare to your basic swing dance skills. I danced with a variety of partners and there were three I truly felt comfortable with to show me what they knew. I felt they could lead with a great deal of confidence and care. There was one partner I felt limp and not really sure what to do and then I found that it was because I needed to learn the cues of where they were leading me. Following has been a weird thing for me, having taekwondo and fighting form I was the leader and I knew where to go, with swing dancing I needed a guide and it was difficult at first to make the mindset switch from leader to follower. Swing dancing is super fun way to meet new people and learn new fun dancing skills!

Keep kicking and smiling- TJ Banski
